Starter Guide to MacWorks on LisaEm

Hello there! This guide is about getting you started in using MacWorks on LisaEm... First, the process might be looking complicated, so i'll try to provide the most possible number of screenshots, if you want new screenshots to be added, comment below!
Let's start, first you need to download this MacWorks special version (You should use MacWorks XL 3.0), here. After that, you should delete the System Disk A after unarchiving the .zip file, and download the one here. Also, you should have installed the LisaEm Original ROM before booting anything, if you didn't install it yet, here is an article that helps you to do it After installing the original ROM, boot LisaEm, and you must have a boot screen like that at the end of the installation article. Then click the first option of the "Startup From" menu, it'll ask you to insert a floppy disk, at that position, you should insert the MacWorks Boot disk, then press "Continue". Then, you'll see this screen : That indicates that MacWorks has booted successfully, and waiting for you to insert the new System Disk A, that you downloaded earlier. After inserting that disk, you'll see something like this : But instead of MP_MPW, you'll see "MacWorks System disk"... This is a testing for the disk, now into copying software. The Mini vMac part of software copying onto your emulated lisa, is in this article. Next, after doing that, the new *.dc42 new diskette is having now your new software, I'll be using MacPaint here as an example! Now boot MacWorks back, to the Minifinder desktop, and press eject, then, insert the disk image that has the software you want to run. Then click "Open other" and choose your software/program. Important : The method of copying software used above need disk swaps, if you don't like them, free disk space in the System Disk A, and try to copy the software to it, it successed for me, as the above screenshot shows. Finally, after selecting your program on the System Disk/New Disk, click Open. Here is a screeshot showing MacPaint running in MacWorks/LisaEm NOTE : Not all programs run on MacWorks XL 3.0, but many of older 128K Macintosh programs run, and some other later software! Thank you for reading my article, if you want more screenshots/missing instructions/etc.. to be added, comment it below, and I'll add it as soon as possible! |
