Hello there,

Most of LisaEm Users may have this problem if they are using MacWorks.

Well If you try to insert a Macintosh Disk or something like that, lisaem will show an alert that the disk is not supported.

And that's right, the Lisa used it's own dc42 format for almost all of it's storage devices and made use of The DiskCopy 4.2 format in a special way, making the transfer of your games/apps to MacWorks much more diffcult.

Well let's get started! :

1 - Download the package here , This is a version of Mini vMac that uses MacWorks disks .

2 - Now insert a blank diskette into LisaEm after fully booting macworks to the desktop and format it from there.

3 - Now eject the Diskette.

4 - Then you should insert the following into the Mini vMac version you downloaded from the previous link :

  • Your MacWorks System Disk
  • The Software disk you want to copy
  • The formatted diskette

5 - Now copy the software to the Blank MacWorks formatted diskette and everything will run just fine.

Explainations :

  • Why I should use that Mini vMac version? Why not the original.

Answer : Using the original one will fail because the one I provided in the link has full MacWorks disk support and using the original one will result in an error during copying that says : The disk is locked.

  • Why should I format the disk in MacWorks environment, why not in Mini vMac?

Answer : Formatting the new diskette that you created on LisaEm with Mini vMac (the version I provided), will format only 100K/the whole disk image 400Ks, in fact, only 100K of the disk image will be available if you do so.
