What is F/A-18 Hornet?

F/A-18 Hornet (also known as F//A-18 Hornet Classic) is Graphic Simulations first game in the F/A-18 Hornet series. It features a variety of training missions in Hawaii and campaign missions in the Kuwait theater. It has an advanced realistic flight model for 1993. Missions include both anti-air and strike missions in which a wide variety of weapons can be employed including:

• AIM-9 Sidewinder
• AIM-120 AMRAAM
• AGM-62 Walleye
• AGM-65E Maverick
• AGM-88B HARM
• Mk-82, Mk-83 and Mk-84 bombs in low drag, high drag and LGB variants
• CBU-59B cluster munitions
• And in some missions the B-57 tactical nuclear weapon

The Maverick and Walleye can use the electo-optical targetting system and a FLIR pod can be used with other weapons. There are a veriety of realistic radar modes with 4 air and 4 ground radar modes. Adversaries include Mig-23 Floggers, SU-27 Flankers, SAM and AAA emplacements.

Training missions include take-off and flight, landing, carrier landings, autopilot and radar usage, air-to-ground and air-to-air weapons use.

Campaign missions can take place in the desert of Kuwait or at sea launching from a carrrier and are as varied as helping a defecting enemy pilot to escape, intercepting hovercraft attacking a nuclear power station or using a nuclear weapon to destroy a dam.  Each campaign mission is selected from a pool of 28 missions making up a career of 7 missions.

The game also supports up to 3 monitors for an unprecendented view of the battlefield at the time.
