Corrupted .zip archive? Unexpected end of file?

Getting an "Unexpected end of file" or "There was a problem while reading the contents" error when trying to expand a .zip archive under Windows, Linux or even with an utility like The Unarchiver under Mac OS X?

I was stumped to discover recently that, sometimes, Apple's Archive Utility app that is bundled with OSX is the only ZIP utility that can successfully expand those .zip files by ignoring invalid ZIP archive sizes and/or invalid CRC checksum.  It allows to expand files that otherwise no other program will.  An example of this is: https://www.macintoshrepository.org/32820-mac-os-x-snow-leopard#d35269

If you get an error like this, try to open the file using Archive Utility app under Mac OS X.  Obviously, if the file truely is missing DATA because it's incomplete (it was not downloaded in full) then nothing can be done about it, but this is worth a try and has saved me files I thought were "corrupted" when really, the resulting expanded files were fine after all.
