What is PixelPaint 1.0? PixelPaint was one of the first few programs released that utilized the Macintosh II's color capabilities. It was a raster graphics (pixel-based) editor. Though it looks like a fairly simple program today, a lot of its features were cutting edge at the time. The color wheel used to pick colors that is commonplace today had not been needed on the Macintosh before the Macintosh II. It also sported "Visual Effects" under the Edit menu, something else that was not possible on previous machines. Unfortunately, being cutting edge carried a price. About $1,000 (US) to be more specific. On top of that, there were few options for printing in color at the time. The LaserWriter was not up to the task, but PixelPaint was able to support color PostScript printers, once they became available. Most of the printer options that had decent output at the time cost more than the Macintosh II. Download PixelPaint 1.0 for Mac
