What is MacFlim 2.x? MacFlim is an open source package of tools including a 68K video player app on a floppy disk image, plus instructions on how to build a modern program that will let you convert any video file to a streamable tiny B&W video that will play back on a 1980's Macintosh (e.g. Mac 128K, Plus, SE, etc...) using that 68K video player app. MacFlim older than version 2.0 did not feature sound but starting from MacFlim 2.0 it now produces a video file that has mono sound, but it requires ffmpeg 5.0 or newer to convert the video files. More information, install instructions and source code are on the MacFlim GitHub page But basically, install dependancies:
Then download the source, go into the src folder and build it:
Then the built app is ready to use, so let's try it against a YT video:
So finally, in the same folder as flimmaker, we have a big .mp4 file that can be played back on modern computers and a smaller .flim that can be played back on a 1980's Mac using the MacFlim app on the floppy disk image.
