What is Mac Identifier?

Mac Identifier is a control panel designed for users who can't stand the thought of their Mac not knowing its own model designation or what itself looks like :P Mac Identifier 2.2 effectively lets you change the icon and text that appears in the "About this Macintosh" window.  Under Mac OS 8, it lets you set the banner image instead and under Mac OS 9, it doesn't have any effect at all.  You can set it to anything you want or have the control panel instantaneously figure it out, which is very useful in some cases where the version of Mac OS that is running cannot even do so!

Mac Identifier can even alter the gestAltMachineType ID to make applications believe you're running a different Macintosh model.
