What is iPod Software Updater? Firmware update installers for early generations of iPod. Note to DL#1:
iPod Software 2.0.1iPod Software 2.0.1 is the earliest known firmware available for the 3rd generation iPod Classic. It has the older "Browse" menu on the home screen (instead of Artists and Albums), and uses the 4 segment battery icon. Notably, firmware 2.0.1 allows the 3rd Generation iPod Clasic to sync with iTunes 2, which makes it compatible with Macintosh OS 9. This is the only firmware for the 3rd gen classic that allows this. The updater is a PowerPC OS X application package compressed in a zip. Unfortunately there is no OS 9 version, so a PowerPC OS X installation is required to run the updater and restore the iPod to 2.0.1 firmware. An alternative installation method is to restore the iPod to firmware 2.3 using any other method (including modern iTunes), on either macOS (HFS MacPod) or Windows (FAT32). This will create the filesystem. Then, manually install the firmware partition file (located inside the iPod-Software-2-0.1-updater package at /Contents/Resources/Firmware) using iPodWizard, ipodpatcher, or any other tool that can write the iPod firmware parition. The next time the iPod reboots, it will ask to be connected to a firewire charger, and then start the firmware flashing process. Download iPod Software Updater for Mac
