What is Internet Phone?

VocalTec Internet Phone was pretty much the ancestor of Skype.  You could use your Mac to call somebody on the internet having a Mac or a Windows computer and have a vocal chat with them.  A nice and friendly cartoon "assistant" was displayed in the corner showing you what was going on with the communication.

VocalTec Internet Phone Public Beta #1 came with very clear documentation containing a lot of setup tips with very straightforward screenshots.

Compatibility notes

Architecture: PPC only - 80mhz or faster

System 7.6.1 - Mac OS 9.2.2 (except public beta #1 which is ONLY compatible with System 7.5.x)

At least 4MB of free RAM (recommended 8MB)

This cannot work under SheepShaver and it is NOT compatible with Mac OS 9.  Disable virtual memory even if you use real hardware to run this.

 


Emulating this? It could probably run under: Basilisk II
