Player Manager 2003 is a single player football management game.
In this game the player can manage any club in the English league, that is the Premier League, Divisions 1,2, & 3, and the Football Conference using either real player names or fictional player names. There are no European clubs to manage but the top premier league clubs do have European commitments to fulfil.
The player takes control of their selected club literally as a new manager. Players in the squad are all 100% fit but their playing stats serve as a guideline only, they were achieved under the previous manager, however they can be motivated with the Player Talk function which allows the manager to praise, or discipline their squad individually.
As is common with management games of this type the player must build the best squad they can with their money keeping their players fit, trained and motivated. They must select the squad and decide the team's strategy for each match, renew contracts (or not if the player is surplus/not performing), manage the finances, appoint trainers and other club staff, all while playing and hopefully winning matches. Matches are not limited to just the league games, there are reserve games and cup games too.
The actual games can be watched real-time in 3D, allowing for on-the-fly substitutions and tactical decisions, and a unique feature is you can both manage and play for a club, there is no choice of camera angle for these matches nor is there an audio commentary.
