What is Starbound?

Starbound is a fairly simple turn based game: Build up your space Navy, take over planets, spread to the ends of the galaxy. Although its not much to look at (or hear, some of the sound effects are clearly done by a human mouth) its a blast to play and can be very challanging. You lead one of 6 races, each with one major technological advantage over the others, to galactic rule. There is no campaign, per se, so each game is different from the last, you choose your race (from a list of 6), the enemy AI level, the number of races and the amount of planets in the system. Each planet you control has a list of things that it will research (Weapons, Shields, Sensors, Speed, Ships, Output) and each has a slider, adjust which things you want to develop faster (if at all) and build up your planets and the ships they make. It sounds simple but you will soon find that it gets very challanging is a fast paced game. Overall a good game, its only real problems are in the AI and the combat: the AI itself is pretty stupid (not too bad for an older game though) and combat has no player interaction at all, in a fight between two very powerful ships you could end up sitting there watching for a few minutes.
