What is Felix ?

Sometimes a new version isn't better than the old version. That's the case with the Felix puck-type pointing device. Originally made only for non-ADB Macs (Pluses and earlier models), it is now available in an ADB version.

The Felix takes a while to get used to. Once you get the hang of it, though, it is quick and precise. In this version, the button is on top of the puck and feels loose and cheap. The two side-mounted buttons of the original felt better and made for easier operation. This version has different angles on the left and right, and while I think it is designed for righthanders, the feel of the overall shape was better when I used it with my left hand.

The software is excellent in concept but crudely done. It must be “taught” the edges of the screen each time the Mac is restarted — that's not acceptable. A puck cursor controller has potential, but this generation of the Felix isn't the puck device we deserve.
