What is 銀河英雄伝説Ｖ (Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu V)?

Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu V (Japanese: 銀河英雄伝説Ｖ, translation: "Legends of the Galactic Heroes 5", abbreviation: Gineiden 5) is a science fiction war simulation game based on the novel series by Yoshiki Tanaka and animated series of the same name. The game was fifth in a series and published by Bothtec, Inc. for Windows 95 in 1998. The Macintosh version was published by MediaKite in 2000.

The game features many animated cut scenes and a classical music MIDI soundtrack with works by Ravel, Bruckner, Wagner, and others.

Many of the game scenarios are based on battles depicted in the source novels. Some commenters feel that faithfulness to the source material has been emphasized over balance between the combatants and recommend that players new to the game and/or unfamiliar with the source novels play the Galactic Empire (帝国軍) rather than the Free Planets Alliance (同盟軍) with which it is much more difficult to win some scenarios.
