What is Orbit?

Orbit is a worthless, useless, waste of time, and for someone with fairly low IQ like mine, intoxicating.

Basically, Orbit simulates the motion of point masses in a two-dimensional, ideal vacuum... such as the universe, only flatter, and much reduced in size to fit on a Mac screen.

On startup the screen contains a random number of bodies, placed in random positions on the screen, and with initial velocities such that the bodies all orbit around the initial center of mass for the system. That will change rapidly, however. As you might guess, the larger dots represent larger masses. Each size increase in dot represents an order of magnitude increase in relative mass of the body.

Jackson, Bruce. (September 1987). Orbit instructions. Electronic Document.
