iLife is a software suite launched by Apple in 2003, originally consisting of iPhoto, iTunes, iMovie and iDVD. GarageBand was introduced the next year and iWeb in 2006. The 2009 iLife version is said to mark "a major update" of the suite, according to the then Apple press release (here in french).
Among other features, face recognition is newly added in iPhoto. On another hand, iTunes was dropped from the iLife '09 suite to be directly integrated to mac os X.
The minimal mac os required to run iLife '09 is 10.5.6. (universal binary). The next edition, iLife '11, released in October 2010, required at least mac os x 10.6.3. and runs only with an Intel processor.
