In Blush, the player controls a squid in a lush, underwater environment, with an atmosphere reminiscent of Aquaria and flOw. Each gameplay session only lasts four minutes and during that time span the squid needs to take out enemies, collect the coloured eggs they leave behind, and transport them to capture points where they can be exchanged for bonuses.
The squid is moved around using the mouse and enemies need to be taken out by moving the mouse in a short, circular motion to hit them with tentacles that act like a tail. Enemies have two states; normal and attack, shown visually, and they can only be touched when in the first state. When touching them at the wrong moment, some of the squid's tentacles break off.
With limited time available, the player needs to balance attacking enemies and upgrading at the capture point. Some of the bonuses that become available restore damaged tentacles, upgrade the speed or extend the tentacles. Smaller enemies only need a single hit, while larger ones require an upgraded state in order to take them out more efficiently, as well as multiple hits.
As with all Flashbang games, the game is integrated into the Blurst gaming platform, where a single account can be used for all games. Players can unlock achievements tied to their account and compare a personal score against a global leaderboard.
