The Mac's ability to use sound has interested users from the earliest days. Two of today best sound manipulators are shareware. Although some features overlap, serious soundophiles will want both. The suggested donation for both programs is $30,
The first is Sound Manager Package from Ettore Software, Sound Manager's interface looks and works a lot like Font/DA Mover's, moving sounds into Sound suitcases. It can also play sounds and do some light editing. Mac sound resources and files come in several incompatible formats, as anyone who has ever tried to manipulate them quickly has discovered. Sound Manager can read all the formats and can do almost any necessary conversion. That alone is worth the price of admission.
Included in the package are small INITs that play a sound at startup, at shutdown, and when something is thrown into the trash. There's also a program that lets Plus and SE users who are still using System Update 5.0 have custom System beeps.
