What is NetCD?

NetCD is a CD player utility. Unlike the built-in Apple CD Player that shipped with Mac OS, NetCD was the first and most popular CD player to access the CDDB on the internet to display the track names of the currently playing CD (something which was not encoded onto most audio CDs.) It became obsolete when Apple debuted iTunes in January 2001, which also provided access to the CDDB (as well as ushering the digital audio revolution!).
