Usually when you install software that requires QuickTime player, they give you the Custom Installation option which allows you to exclude QuickTime player (you don't need to install it because it's likely that you already have the newest version). However, some software doesn't give you that option, and will install it anyway; It seems like back in the day, either some or no installers could or were made to actually check whether you already had a newer version installed. Even though the installer program of this software says that it will "install QuickTime 3 if required", it seems to install it no matter what, overwriting your possibly newer version in the process. When that happens, you might get nags about several QuickTime extensions not loading because they require a different version. But then if you try to go and download the newer QuickTime version back, you'll probably discover that your computer is acting up and refuses to unpack .sit and .bin files, or mount .iso or .toast files! So you may not be able to actually reinstall QuickTime at all even if you get the compressed file onto your system. Everything is just broken and weird.

The fix: Before installing this software, go to System Folder > Extensions. Give all the QuickTime extensions a color label if you want, so you'll know that they're the originals. Create a copy of all the QuickTime extensions somewhere on your hard drive, to back them up. Then, proceed to install the software. If you get nags about the QuickTime version mismatch, all you have to do is restore the working QuickTime version from the backup you just made. In the Extensions folder, you may find QuickTime extensions which are zero kb in size, and whatever the software installer installed will be lacking the color labels. Delete those, and replace with your good backup. Restart computer for the changes to take effect.
If you tend to install all sorts of software to test out, in order to avoid having to reinstall the whole OS just because some software installer overwrote your QuickTime files without giving you the chance to opt out, it may be a good idea to keep those QuickTime extension file backups somewhere on your hard drive not just for this, but in general!
