What is Mariah?

The more you do on your Mac, the harder it is to stay organized. Symmetry's Mariah is a cataloging utility designed to help you store and search your files,

Mariah creates named “collections” of picture, text, and/or sound files. You can have up to 32,000 items in a collection, and you can associate an unlimited number of keywords with each file. Performing a keyword search is fast and doesn't require a disk index. Collections can be browsed through in a thumbnail view, and the package even permits some limited sound editing.

Because Mariah doesn't compress files, it doesn't necessarily save disk space. Because the program doesn't recognize proprietary formats, flies must be in generic formats such as PICT, TIFF, EPS, text, SND, and so on. Symmetry may add proprietary file-format capabilities to the next version of the program. Meanwhile, don't be surprised if you start seeing some CD-ROM discs being distributed in Mariah format — Symmetry is working on it.
