What is Colour Paint? Colour Paint is a small program to display colour images of any bit-depth on any bit depth display, and allow a few simple painting changes to be made. It is especially useful on machines like the LC, as the program itself is small, leaving lots of memory It provides MacPaint-like editing of colour and greyscale images, including the ability to draw lines, rectangles, ovals and text. Rectangular areas may be copied and pasted between images of differing colours/bit-depths. Finally, on machines with System 7, paint and smear effects may be produced. Download Colour Paint for Mac
The program requires a Macintosh with a 68020 CPU or above (such as the LCs, all Mac IIs, Quadras, the Powerbook 140 and 170, the SE30 and the Classic II). The program likes over one megabyte of memory, but you can get away with 500K if you want to edit small images. When System 7 is present, the program will try to make a good attempt at displaying any number of colours on any display. System 7 is also required for Smudge, Airbrush and Brush tools to work effectively. Under System 6, these tools draw a crude, solid blob. Under System 7, basic Apple Events may be recieved, but if an error occurs, the program will not respond (e.g. if an image to be opened takes up more memory than is free). Images in the range 100x100 to 4000x4000 may be edited (depending on how much memory is free) in black and white, 2,4,8,16 and 24 bits. Multiple images at any bit depth may be simultaneously open, and you can freely copy and paste between them.
