ServerScan is an unsupported, free utility from The AG Group that provides network
managers and administrators with information on AppleShare file servers enterprisewide.
ServerScan helps network managers enforce network security levels by identifying all machines
with guest access enabled. It also shows which version of AppleShare each server supports
and the platform on which it is running. Scans are fast because users may select only zones of
interest for each scan. The resulting scan files are presented in tab-delimited format suitable
for export to spreadsheet, charting or database applications.
Network managers can use ServerScan to:
· List every AFP server found within:
· All zones
· A specific list of zones
· Identify servers by:
· Name
· CPU Type (Macintosh, Novell 386, Windows NT, etc.)
· AppleShare Version (System 7 File Sharing, AppleShare 3.0, NetWare,
AppleShare Pro, DataClub, etc.)
· Check authentication methods, including:
· N = No User Authentication. This is clearly identified in red and underlined so that network managers may take note and, if necessary, take action to limit unauthorized access to identified file servers .
· C = Cleartext password. Represents a possible security breach
· R = Random number exchange
· 2 = 2-Way Random number exchange
· W = NetWare password
· M = Microsoft password
