What is Mac OS 8.1 (Umax Supermac J710 Series)?

The ultra-rare SuperMac J710 was originally intended to ship with Mac OS 8.1, as Umax had secured an OS 8 license from Apple (the only "Mac Clone" maker to have legally done so).  This ZIP file contains an image of the internal Golden Master system install CD that would have come with it.

Engineered to be the new computer for business professionals and home-office workers, the slimline J710 was shown to great response at MacWorld Expo San Francisco in January, 1998, with an intended ship date in March -- but ultimately was never sold to the public. A 250MHz G3 version was already planned for later in '98, and many of the few dozen units which were sold to employees came with G3's ranging from 200 to 275MHz.
