What is Macromedia FreeHand MX? Macromedia Freehand MX was a two-dimensional vector graphics oriented editor. As the last version of Freehand before Adobe aquired the rights to all of Macromedia, Freehand MX is heralded as a pinnacle of vector applications by graphic designers of the time. It competed and was similar in scope to Adobe Illustrator, CorelDRAW and Xara Designer Pro. Macromedia was purchased by Adobe in 2005 for $3.4 Billion USD1. Adobe proceeded to cease operations of Macromedia, and all of its Application development, making Adobe Illustrator the defacto standard.
