What is Scratch?

Visual programming language targeted primarily at children. Coding is done by assembling blocks in the editor and each of these blocks represents a keyword of the programming language. End-result could be an animation or a game, for example. That first version of Scratch was a desktop-only application, instead of being in the cloud like its sequel. Software is free, open-source, and multilingual (~40 languages).

Version 1.4 (2009) is the final desktop version.
Beginning with version 2.0 (2013), Scratch has became a web application.
