What is Adaptec Jam?

Jam lets you create 100% Red Book-compliant audio CDs which can be used as replication masters or played in any standard CD player. Whether you are a musician, an audio engineer, or just a music enthusiast, Jam gives you the flexibility and quality you demand.
Unlike competing solutions, Jam does not require special audio hardware. All you need is a Macintosh and a CD recorder to create your own CDs. Jam supports most available CD recorders. For automatic writing of multiple discs, Jam supports several disc transporters.
Any changes made to your tracks with Jam are nondestructive. For example, if you shorten the track length or change volume, the original data remains untouched. This allows you to create different compilations of a CD without changing the original files.

Features of Jam Version 2.1:
Jam is loaded with new features to give you more control over the whole CD creation process.

Compatibility notes

System Requirements

Jam works with most Apple Macintosh computer (and compatible) models, if they meet the following requirements:

• MacOS compatible computer using 68030 microprocessor or better

• MacOS, System 7.0 or newer

• 8 MB free memory (RAM)

  If you use an operating system older than System 7.5, it is recommend that Drag-and-Drop Manager is installed as this simplifies the whole process of CD creation. 

System Compatibility Notes

Adaptec Jam has been tested on a wide range of Macintosh models running various versions of System Software.  The minimum system required is a 68030-based Macintosh computer running System 7.1 with 4 MB of free RAM. We recommend using a 68040 or PowerPC-based Macintosh computer running System 7.5.1 or later. PowerBook computers which do not support SCSI Manager 4.3 are not recommended for CD Recording.

If you don't find your drive in this list, just run the application to see if it recognizes your drive as one of the above. If it doesn't recognize your drive, you may need a driver or a new version of this software which supports the drive.

Hardware Limitations

Disc-at-Once mode is not supported on the following drives: Artmedia RW6220B, BTC RW6220B, Creative CDR2000, DataDisc CDR-2X, Hightech CD-R2000, JVC XR-W1001, JVC-XR-W2001, Kodak PCD Writer 200, Philips CDD521, Philips CDD3600, Pinnacle RCD-202, Pioneer CD-ROM Writer DW-S114X, Plasmon RF4100/4102, Ricoh RO1060C, Ricoh RS-9200CD, Sony CDU926S, Smart and Friendly CD-R 2006, Optima Diskovery CD-R 1300, Olympus CD-R2x6, Sanyo CRD-R24S, Taiyo Yuden EW-50.

Many PQ subcode editing features are not available with these drives. Please do not use audio discs created with one of these drives for pre-mastering purposes.

The following drives do not support multisession in Disc-at-Once mode (i.e. the Write Session button will not be available): Acer CR-1420C, Acer CRW620, Kodak PCD Writer 600, Olympus Deltis CD-R2, Olympus CD-R2X4, Olympus CD-R2x6, Optima Diskovery 650, Optima Diskovery CD-R 1300, Panasonic CW-7501, Plextor PX-R24CS, Ricoh RO-1420C, Smart and Friendly CD-R 2004, Smart and Friendly CD-R 2006, Sony CDU920S/921S, Sony CDU924S, Sony CDW-900E, Mitsubishi CDRW226, NOMAI 680RW, Philips OMNIWRITER 26, Pinnacle RCDW226, Ricoh CDRW MP6200S, Ricoh CDRW MP6201S, Waitec WT2036.

The following drives do support Disc-at-Once mode, but cannot write UPC/ISRC codes: All JVC and Pinnacle models, except the Pinnacle RCD 4X4 and Pinnacle RCD4X12, all Sony, Optima, Olympus models except Sony CDW900E, Sony CDU948S, Smart and Friendly CD-R 2004, Smart and Friendly CD-R 2006 Plus. Note that some JVC/Pinnacle drives claim to support ISRC/UPC codes, but the feature is not supported by Adaptec Jam since we found it to be unreliable.

The following drives do not support audio index points in Disc-at-Once mode: Kodak PCD Writer 600, Panasonic CW-7501, Panasonic CW-7502.

Philips CDD522/Kodak PCD225 users: These drives might not always write audio index points correctly. The copy flag is always set to "copy permitted" in the actual subcode, regardless of the TOC setting. These drives write the lead-out in data mode, which might result in problems during mastering.

Dynatek CDM4000 users: The CDM4000 command set does not provide many of the advanced features supported by Adaptec Jam. Please hold down the Option Key and select "Search" from the "Recorder" menu to access the built-in Yamaha CDR100 directly.

Cygnet Replicator users: The Replicator command set does not provide many of the advanced features supported by Adaptec Jam. The replicator is supported in Track-at-Once mode only.

The following drives do not support SCSI disconnect/reselect during writing. Consequently, they do not realize most of the benefits of the RAM cache introduced in Adaptec Jam, formerly Toast CD-DA 2.0: JVC XR-W2010, Pinnacle RCD 5040, Plextor PX-R24CS (fimrware < v1.11), Ricoh RO-1420C (firmware < v1.11), Acer CR-1420C (firmware < v1.11)

Most drives have a limit to the total amount of track/subcode information they can handle for a given disc. For example, the Philips CDD522 and Kodak PCD225 have a hard limit of about 100 index points per disc (not per track!) in Disc-at-Once mode. On most other drives it won't be possible to create a 99-track disc with 50 index points per track. Generally speaking, for discs containing up to 15-20 tracks you should not run into any drive-specific limits.

Simulation Mode is not available with these drives:

The following drives do not operate at single speed:
