What is MacTech Vol 1-12 & 1-17?

The MacTutor / MacTech CD offered in the '90s which includes all the articles, code fragments and tools from the magazine.
Almost exclusively 68K, there might be some PPC as well.

Vol 1-17 containing stuff through april 2001 offers of course PPC information.
The MacTech volumes are stored in THINK Reference format. The CD also contains Appl's Develop issues 1-29.
It contains many code examples as well as information about ToolBox functions. Very useful for programmers.
The code examples are all .sit archives.

The magazine dealt with advanced topics you may not know about or even expect as the implementation of Threads, Mutexex and Semaphores on the Classic MacOS for example.

First, a Threads Package was available that was described in the Develop issue 6 (about 91) that implemeted cooperative threads. It is on the MacTech CD. The uploaded verion makes it possible to take the code example by copy paste the does not work with the Think Reference Viewer on the CD.
A few years later, the package became obsolete and was replaced by the Thread Manager providing cooperative as well as preemtive threads. File ThreadsMacOS.rtfd (could only upload its content TXT.rtf).

I also have an example for mutexes but have no information if is is obsolete or not. Just provided if it helps someone.

Architecture

68K + PPC (FAT)

System Requirements

From Mac OS 1.0 up to Mac OS 9.2

Compatibility notes

This is a 550MB classic MacOS .img file which will not properly open in Mac OS X.
If there are issues, I can dig up the original disc and create an OS X compatible image.

Vol 1-17 CD brings the THINK Reference Viewer 2.71 and the THINK Reference Compiler to convert HTML to those databases.

Emulating this? It could probably run under: Basilisk II
