The first thing you notice about CanOpener is that the interlace is odd-looking — very NeXT-like, in fact. Despite that, it works just like any other Mac program. CanOpener is yet another search-and-retrieval utility. It's powerful and efficient, and has enough unique features to make it worth a look, as long as you have a need for a program such as this.
CanOpener's special features include the ability to display text, EPSF, PICT, PICT II, and MacPaint graphics, and it can also play sounds within documents. The bits and pieces you locate in your searches can all be collected in libraries that function like Scrapbook files do.
On the performance measures that count with this sort of utility — search speed and the ability to work well in the background — CanOpener scores quite well. Once you get used to its controls, CanOpener is a workable, efficient tool.
A nice touch is the provision of an application for best use under MultiFinder and a comparable DA for those who prefer not to use MultiFinder.
Program operation is quite intuitive, but the skimpy manual doesn't reveal enough about accessing the program’s enormous power.
