What is Adaptec DirectCD?

DirectCD is a UDF file system driver, allowing you to save files to a CD-R disk. There's also DirectCD for Windows, which can write both to CD-R and CD-RW. It was sold by Adaptec (later Roxio).

DirectCD for Mac OS can write to CD-RWs as well, but only in CD-R mode, i.e. this means that it cannot overwrite written data, and every time you write files with DirectCD, more recordable space on the CD-R will be used up. This made DirectCD ideal for archiving, but less useful for temporary file storage, e.g. to transfer files to other computers.

Adapted UDF Volume Access is the free companion to this program, making it possible to read UDF disks in general, and written by DirectCD in particular.
