What is Address Book Plus?

In the September issue, I praised a beta copy of an address database and printer called DynoDex (see Pinstripe Picks in this issue for a review of the shipping version). It’s out now and is better than the early version I saw. However, it won't be alone for long, and it may not be the best address book for you.

Address Book Plus has even more promise than DynoDex. The main data-entry screen is better designed, with some artificial intelligence that can speed up entry while making it more accurate. It has more-powerful grouping and sorting features. In addition, a phone-dialer DA gives you read-only access to your address book.

One of the most important features of any address keeper is its printing ability. So far, DynoDex and Address Book Plus seem closely matched in printing, although they produce very different output. Another main feature is accessibility, and Address Book Plus seems to be ahead on that score.

Power Up! Software will be shipping two versions of Address Book Plus: a software-only version and a deluxe version that includes the program, a 4-x-7-inch leather binder, and 100 sheets of 3-x-6-inch paper.

Address Book Plus, covered in its beta version here in the February issue, is now out. The final product, with even more useful features than before, is a fast and flawless performer.

The only way Address Book Plus lags behind DynoDex (see February Pinstripe Picks) is its inability to print on both sides of a page. But its wide range of font and type-size options more than makes up for the single-sided printing.

A separate dialer DA lets you access the names and addresses while you’re in any application. You can copy them or have the DA dial your phone, but you can not add to or edit your list.

Along with excellent performance, Address Book Pius is a pleasure to use.
