What is iLife ’08 v8.0 (691-5996-A,2Z) (DVD)?

iLife '08, the infamous version from 2007 that provided major updates and enhancements to its' bundled applications, and in one case completely redoing one, along with being integreated into their then-new .Mac Web Gallery...

  • iPhoto '08 features a slightly redesigned interface and the new ability to organize your photos as "Events," so you don't have to create a separate album for every set of photos you import for every occasion or event or such, this making photo organization a lot more easy and convenient. Powerful new photo editing tools are also included, theme-based home printing, more calendar and photo book templates, and the ability to publish to the .Mac Web Gallery, many of which would later be incorporated into the modern MacOS Photos application.
  • iMovie '08 is a completely rewritten application and was the most infamous part of this iLife version. It utilizes a radically-different editing interface that allows the convenient skimming and selection of certain parts of clips in an iPhoto-esque video library that you want to add to your project, improved support for then-modern non-tape high-definition camcorders, more quicker editing techniques, real-time transitions and titling, an improved and more detailed video improvement/color correction utility, the ability to add more than two layers of background audio (including a special dedicated audio "track" for background music), and direct high-quality upload to YouTube and the .Mac Web Gallery, or to iOS devices or iTunes or as individual video files. It was notably more limited compared to its' predecessors, but got better and more feature-packed with each new revision over the years.
  • GarageBand '08 goes back to music creation as its most-promoted feature (as the previous version seemed to prioritize podcast creation overm music) and in the process introduces "Magic GarageBand," which lets you play an instrument with a virtual "band" in real-time to create a full song. It also introduces multi-take recording, keyframe editing of track effects and virtual instruments, a Visual EQ, and new Jam Packs that can be purchased separately.
  • iWeb '08 allowed the use of "web widgets" on a personal websites (media and other content from other sites), incorporation of Google Maps and AdSense, enhanced photo page creation, easy switching and mixing of website themes, and personal domain names for when posting websites online via .Mac (later MobileMe.)
  • iDVD is largely neglected, as Steve Jobs was feeling at the time that DVDs were becoming an obsolete medium in favor of distributing video online, but ten new themes, slideshow creation, advanced menu customization and pro-quality encoding were still added. This was the last version of iDVD to be made.
