What is Disinfectant?

Free antivirus for old Macs, retired in 1998. Some Mac users, a minority, who do not

use Microsoft Word 6 or Excel 5 or later versions, may still find Disinfectant useful.

If you suspect that you’ve caught a virus, you can use Disinfectant to scan your hard drive, find the evil intruders, kill them, repair the corrupted files, and then set up a security system to ward off future attacks. Disinfectant also works on floppy disks, which is a real boon to anyone still using the mini storage devices. The program is one-dick easy, and the documentation is clear and concise, though hardly necessary.

Important: Disinfectant is very old and does not scan inside archives such as .sit or .zip and it does not support scanning Word/Excel macros. So consider using Virex instead on any Mac OS 7.5 to Mac OS 9.2.2 system.
