Inspired by Ingemar's Skiing Game, I decided to write this game as a tribute to Manitoba's curling champions, past, present and future.
Putting curling on the computer presents a certain number of problems. First, in real life a curling rink is about 10 times longer than it is wide, a geometry that would not be feasible to adopt on a computer screen. I have used a ratio of 5:1 with stones relatively larger than in the real game. This simplifies the game, but, I hope, not too much.
Due to the lack of space and to keep the game moving at a reasonable rate, the number of stones per end has been reduced from 8 to 6 (or 4 as an option). Also, due to the short travel time, I have made no attempt to implement sweeping which some diehards claim is the essence of curling.
