What is REALbasic 2006 Release 3?

REALbasic 2006r3 is the last release to support PowerPC Toolbox builds.

REALbasic provides an environment to create an application's entire user interface, and then add snippets of code to various elements of the interface. The ability to graphically see an application take shape is one of its strong points, which is why it is one of the most popular rapid application development (RAD) environments on the Mac.

Despite this power and easy-of-use, it has its weak points. The Professional edition is expensive, though it allows development for Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux applications. The Standard edition only allows for development on a single platform. There are also complaints about a crowded and restrictive interface (long-time users may miss the ability to open multiple projects at once), and it has also gotten a reputation for being buggy - hundreds of bug fixes are listed as changes even for minor releases.

While the interface has not changed much - it is almost the same as REALbasic 2005 - a big change is the added support of Intel processors in the Mac OS X version. A wide array of objects, which keep expanding, is also available. This is partly responsible for its popularity.
