If this year’s science project includes freezing and slicing the dead body of a convicted murderer, photographing the slices and scanning those pictures into a computer for a 3D model, sorry to say it’s been done.
For 40 bucks, you too can check out the bod of Joseph Paul Jemigan, executed by lethal injection in 1993 — his remains donated to science. One thing led to another and pictures of his thinly sliced body ended up as part of a groundbreaking project by two Colorado researchers for an actual computer-image man. Nothing could be cooler and freakier at the same time. Peel off layers of his tissue, fly through his rib cage and twirl his brain around.
There’s a body parts index with detailed explanations, and a thorough background on the project. It’s quick-loading, clean, comprehensive, and well worth the money, so long as you can stomach the images.
