What is Internet Explorer 4.01 & Outlook Express 4? Version 4.01 of the popular Internet Explorer web browser for Macintosh. At this time, Safari was nonexistant and at best your computer may have come bundled with an outdated version of Netscape Navigator. Internet Explorer was considered a very good upgrade path at the time of it's release on the Macintosh platform, although it's not particularly useful anymore as most web pages will refuse to load under the hideously outdated security measures.Classilla is recommended for viewing web pages on Macs of this era, but you may still want to grab a copy of IE 4 and see what it might have been like. Classilla does not support Macromedia (Later Adobe) Flash for Macintosh, either, and Netscape tends to be a slow memory hog, so Internet Explorer is recommended instead if you wish to run older Flash software.
