What is Shutdown Controller?

Shutdown Controller is a Macintosh utility to shutdown Macintosh computers automatically controlling if condition indicated by the user to shut down are satisfied. In this way the computer can run unattended and shut down when its work is not requested any more. There are 3 condition the program can check:

  • Time interval.
    • The computer shutdown only inside a specified time interval.
  • Critical applications.
    • The computer shut down only if application indicated by the user as critical are not running.
  • Internet connection.
    • The computer can't shutdown if an internet connection is up and running.

Combining these three condition as the user prefers is possible to automatize the moment the computer shutdown unattended.

In this way a Mac client can be configured to run an internet connection to download a large file unattended, when the download is finished the Internet connection is closed as specified in your internet setting automatically. At this point Shutdown Controller realizing the internet connection was closed, will shutdown the Mac automatically.

The user can launch a series of tasks when he leaves the Mac, as backups, network jobs, communication tasks or everything else. When all the tasks are completed, the Mac will be immediately shut down.

Also is possible to configure the Mac to shut down at a prefixed time whit no other condition, or at a prefixed time only if critical apps are not running or also if a internet connection is up or both the condition and so on.

In a few words Shutdown Controller provides a way to 'control' how an unattended Mac automatically shutdown.

As in Mac Restart, also Shutdown Controller when it is in the background changes the time requested to the CPU to run, this not to hog your Mac and leave to servers all the power they need to carry their work.

You need to set only one time the settings, Shutdown Controller will save them in the preferences, indicated critical applications included, ready to be used the next time.
