Good software improves with age, and the newest version of SAM, version 2.0, is a good example. Its most significant new feature is an upgrade procedure that lets users easily upgrade SAM to fight new viruses as they develop. As the updates come out, bulletin boards will post the necessary text strings, and you can obtain them by calling Symantec's 24-hour Virus Newsline (which should be, but isn't, a free call). This way, you won't have to wait for updates to be mailed or even have to pay for them.
The INIT portion, SAM Intercept, has been improved slightly, although its interface suffered a bit in the process. Virus Clinic (the batch- checking application that's included with SAM) now sports a better interface and some new power. I use SAM 2.0 as my own virus preventer/checker.
