MPEGAud is a Macintosh program which can encode and decode MPEG audio to/from AIFF files.
What makes MPEGAud an interesting piece of software to look at today is that since the MP3 standard had just appeared when MPEGAud was released in 1995, this utility only converts MPEG Layer I and II (.mp2) not MPEG Layer III (.mp3). MP2 is very similar to MP3 and is equally supported, just a more rare format in the wild since by the late 90's, everybody was using the MP3 format.
