What is System 7.5 (Disc 1.0) (6100/60, 7100/66, 8100/80) (691-0304-A) (CD)?

About This CD

This CD  contains the latest system software and many other useful items for your Power Macintosh computer. Using this CD, you can:

• Tour the Macintosh Tutorial, a brief introduction to the Macintosh that helps you get started using your computer. Macintosh Tutorial has been installed on your hard drive. To reinstall the software, see the Read Me file in the Macintosh Tutorial Folder.

• Explore the Extras folder, which contains several application programs and control panels for you to try on your Power Macintosh computer. Open the About the Extras Folder in the Extras Folder to see the additional programs Apple has provided to you.

• Explore the Demo Apps folder, which contains a variety of demonstration programs for you to try.

• Try PowerTalk. PowerTalk provides built-in electronic mail, and a single mailbox for all your network services. The PowerTalk Key Chain gives you access to your mailbox and network services with a single password.  (Important: PowerTalk is on your hard disk but has not been installed. See the Read Me file in the PowerTalk folder for information about installation.)

•  Try QuickDraw GX: With QuickDraw GX, you can print a document by dragging its icon to a printer icon. QuickDraw GX also lets you create portable documents, which other System 7.5 users can view and print even if they don’t have the applications or fonts you used. (Important: QuickDraw GX is on your hard disk but has not been installed. See the Read Me file in the QuickDraw GX folder for more information about installation.

This CD also contains a Utilities folder, which includes Apple HD SC Setup, an alias to Disk Copy 4.2, Disk First Aid, and SimpleText.

 

IMPORTANT: If you experience problems with your computer’s system software, you may need to start your computer from this CD. Follow these steps:

1. Make sure the Apple Macintosh CD icon appears on your desktop.

2. Choose Restart from the Special menu.

3. Immediately press and hold down the “c” letter key. Release the key after the computer starts up.

IMPORTANT: To later start up from your internal hard disk when the Apple Macintosh CD is in the CD-ROM drive, open the Startup Disk control panel and make sure your internal hard disk is selected as the startup disk

 

Reinstalling system software on your Power Macintosh computer

To reinstall version 7.5 system software follow the steps below.

1. Make sure the Apple Macintosh CD icon appears on the screen. Double-click to open the icon, if it is not already open.

2. In the Apple Macintosh CD window, open the folder named System Software Install.

3. Double-click the icon labeled Install System Software.

4. A welcome screen appears. Click OK.

5. In the Easy Install dialog box, click Install.

6. Messages appear as the system software is being installed. Restart your computer when installation is complete.

Note: To install or reinstall PowerTalk or QuickDraw GX, follow steps 1-6 clicking the appropriate Install icon.

 

Information on GeoPort™ for Power Macintosh

GeoPort software, which supports the GeoPort Telecom Adapter, combines modem and fax capabilities.  There will be an update to the GeoPort software to work with System 7.5 in the future.
