What is System 7.1.2 (Disc 1.0) (LC 630, Quadra 630) (CD)?

About This CD

This CD  contains the latest system software and many other useful items for your Macintosh computer. Using this CD, you can:

• Install system software version 7.1.2 and other standard software packages on your Macintosh computer. (See “Installing system software” at the end of this document.)  

• Tour Macintosh Basics, a brief introduction to the Macintosh that helps you get started using your computer.

• Use HyperCard Player, an application program that lets you balance your checkbook, play games, organize addresses, and accomplish many other tasks.  Read “What is HyperCard?”  in the HyperCard Player 2.2 folder for more information.

• Reformat and reinitialize your internal hard drive using the Internal HD Format utility, located in the Utilities folder.  Similarly, the HDSC Setup utility may be used to diagnose, reformat, and reinitialize external SCSI hard drives that you may have connected to your Macintosh.  The Disk First Aid utility may be used to further diagnose drive-related problems.

• Produce floppy disks for several current releases of Apple software, including Macintosh CD-ROM Setup, Video Software Installer, and QuickTime 2.0.

You may also install this software directly from the CD using the associated installer application for each.  The QuickTime extension may be installed from CD by dragging the extension into your System folder.

IMPORTANT: If you experience problems with your computer’s system software or need to reformat your internal hard drive, you may need to start your computer from this CD. Follow these steps:

1. Make sure the Macintosh CD icon appears on your desktop.

2. Open the Startup Disk control panel and select the CD-ROM drive.

3. Choose Restart from the Special menu.

NOTE: Remember to select your internal hard drive in the Startup Disk control panel when you are ready to revert to the internal hard drive as the startup device.

Installing system software on your Macintosh computer

Your Macintosh already has system software preinstalled on its hard disk.  You do not need to follow these steps unless a problem arises with your system software that requires reinstallation.

To reinstall the latest system software (version 7.1.2) on your Macintosh computer, follow the steps below.

1. Make sure the Apple Macintosh CD icon appears on the screen. Double-click to open the icon, if it is not already open.

2. In the Apple Macintosh CD window, double-click the icon labeled Install System Software.

3. A welcome screen appears. Click OK.

4. In the Easy Install dialog box, click Install.

5. Messages appear as the system software is being installed. Restart your computer when installation is complete.
