What is MacReporter 1.1.4? The Internet brought us into a new age of information. It is now much quicker to receive and share news and articles. If it contributed to our everyday life as a tremendous added value, the Internet’s growth eventually turned this advantage into a productivity blackhole. There are now so many news sites on the globe, so many articles to read and filter, that getting the right piece of information has become a tedious process. Well, it may sound a bit overrated, but please, take a minute thinking of how much time you spend trying to find the latest news online everyday: there are probably 1 to 5 main sources that you visit at least twice a day. Among those sources there may even be some that you keep refreshing to see if something new has happened: a stockwatcher and an instant news page are good examples. Now imagine the amount of time you lost refreshing those pages even when nothing has happened! Of couse you could use some kind of automated process to check if the page has changed just like some softwares do. Then you would be able to work normally on your computer would only be bothered when your tool notifies you that some page has changed. But what if the new articles on the page don’t interest you at all? What if the page didn’t change its headlines but just updated a date in the header, or some other bogus piece of information? Your regular tool would be fooled by this change and would make you stop working for nothing, thus essentially making it useless. MacReporter has set up a new standard for news browsing. It handles all the hard work for you: you don’t have to go to web sites and refresh pages dozens times a day. You don’t even have to think about it. MacReporter will gracefully survey the web sites you chose, warn you each time new articles have appeared. It will also extract the headlines from the sites, sort them according to your criteria, present them to you in a fast and efficient menu and keep track of the articles you read. You will also be able to decide at once the articles you want to read and the ones you want to ignore. Most importantly, MacReporter is unobstrusive. It will not clutter your screen and your workspace with a large window that hides your other applications. It will remain silent and restrained to a small icon in the Dock until some new articles appear. Then you will be able to open a pop-up menu with a single click of the mouse and quickly browse the new headlines. It’s that simple. MacReporter doesn’t have to be « launched » either. It will be active immediatly after System startup. This way, all you have to do is complete your daily work and wait for the news to come in!
