What is Mac OS 8.0 (Umax SuperMac S9xx & J700 series v5.1)?

This release, one of the only to feature a fully-licensed version of Mac OS 8, came very late in the game for Umax's MacOS system business.  I recall shipping a fair number to customers on request, but very few, if any, of these likely made it to units for sale on store shelves.

From the original ReadMe file, written by yours truly over twenty years ago...

 

"Welcome to SuperMac!

This bootable CD provides all the necessary tools to rebuild your system, should you need to do so.

You will also find copies of all the additional software which has been pre-loaded onto the startup hard disk drive of your system, as well as additional software that you might find useful, or can use to create a customized system.

This CD is designed to be used with the SuperMac S900 or J700. You can use this CD to reinstall the system software on the S900 and the J700. You will not be able to use some of the software installable from this CD on non-UMAX Computer Corporation systems. 

 

Apple Extras & Additional Software

Apple Extras: This folder contains additional items, from HyperCard Updates to Additional Desktop Patterns. These items are not essential for basic functionality of Mac™ OS 8, but do provide extra enhancements for your use.

User Manuals: Inside this folder you will find Adobe's Acrobat Reader 3.0, required when viewing our on-line documentation in "User Manuals". These online documents include the TechTool Pro User Guide, the FWB Hard Disk Toolkit PE and CD-ROM Toolkit User Guides, Asanté's NetDoubler User Guide, and IX Micro's TwinTurbo 128M User Guide. 

In Utilities you will find FWB's "Hard Disk Toolkit • Personal Edition," "Disk Tools Disk Image," "AppleShare 3.6.5," "SimpleText," and "Disk Copy 6.1.3." 

SuperMac™ Extras: provides you with copies of software packages that are bundled with this UMAX SuperMac computer. Where applicable, installers are provided to make installation as simple as possible. UMAX Computer Corporation's "E100" driver and "nPOWER MP" drivers (these are only installed if you have the E100 or secondary  MP processor hardware in your system) are also located here. 

Mac OS ReadMe Files contains ReadMe's for such Mac™ OS 8 functionalities as QuickDraw GX, QuickDraw 3D, Open Transport, and more. Some of the files included are in Adobe's Acrobat PDF (Portable Document Format), so you will need to install Acrobat Reader 3.0 (or later) to view them."
