What is PowerPrint (several versions)? PowerPrint was a combination of hardware and software that would allow a PC Printer with a Centronics parallel port to be used by a Macintosh computer. The software was designed to use a special adapter (included in the package) that would allow the printer to be connected to the Mac either via the Mac's Serial port (in earlier versions) or via a USB port (on later versions). As the adapter itself included special hardware to convert the signal to be used with the printer, generic adapters would not work. The PowerPrint software itself served as a third-party printer driver and as such had to be written for specific printers. In general, HP, Canon, and Epson printers were well supported by this software. All-in-one devices were not well supported. The need for this type of solution waned as USB printers and other peripherals became the norm and manufacturers began natively supporting Apple computers in their print drivers.
