What is Snard ?

Snard is a menu bar and dock based Launcher. Snard reduces dock and screen clutter by replacing numerous items with a convenient system menu or dockling.

With Snard you can : 

• Easily Open Applications as an Administrator

    • Option-Select an Application in the Snard menu ( Application version only )

    • Use the Open App As Administrator... Menu Item

• Perform a search locally or internet wide using Sherlock

• Easy access to all your System Preferences

• Create worksets to open/launch groups of apps/documents with one click 

• Add favorite folders to the snard for quick access to folder contents

• Create groups to organize items

• Quickly access recent items

• Quickly access Favorite and Recently accessed servers

Compatibility notes

It works on 10.3 without issue.

Snard Application

- Icons can be shown in menu

- Menu contents totally configurable - you can move/delete/rename everything ( except "Configure..." )

- Added option to create custom separators - groups, root of menu

- New Menu Configuration UI

- Added Server menu option to show favorite and recent servers

- Recent Items code rewritten

- Option clicking the add button will show all hidden files in the open panel

- Option selecting an application in the snard menu will open it as an administrator

- Dragging main hard drive no longer results in an item named / 

- Worksets can now contain a submenu showing contents       

- Open as Administrator now opens carbon apps correctly

- Preferences can be grouped or not grouped

- Preference search locations

- We use aliases to remember item location - only uses paths if getting an alias to an item fails.

- Aliases are now followed when navigating folder contents

Note : The app stores all its data in ~/Library/Application Support/Snard Data

Dockling

Status

The Snard dockling is now in maintenance mode. We will fix bugs, but no longer add new functionality to the Dockling. Our primary concern now is the application form of Snard. We will keep releasing the dockling as part of Snard until Apple removes the Dockling API. If you use the dockling, we invite you to try the menu version of Snard.

Limitations

The dockling has limitations that Snard.app does not have. The following is a list of dockling limitations :

1. No Icons in menus

2. No Recent Items

3. We don't recommend checking the show folder content switch in Snard Config for large folders.

4. Does not use the new configuration UI that Snard.app uses

5. Menu contents not as configurable as Snard.app
