What is Basketball 2.0?

Basketball 2.0 is a number generator disguised as a 1980's Mac game.

From the ReadMe file:

ABOUT BASKETBALL...

It all started on December 24th.  One day after my last final (and my 5th all-nighter in 12 days), I came down with a huge sore throat and bronchitis. Seeing as I was laid up for Christmas, I set about trying to find ways to relieve the boredom.  This program is the result of one such attempt.

In the beginning, it was very simple.  All I wanted to do was create a quick program that would give me random numbers so that I could play a mini-NBA season on a piece of paper.  This soon became VERY boring, so I started to add features to it.  First I rated teams, then I put in names, and so on, until it grew into the elephant you now possess.

For those of you who are interested, the teams are rated from 1 (best) to 6 (worst).  The ratings were taken from the winning percentages that appeared in my local paper on December 24th (being a diehard Celtics fan, it hurt me to have to give them a 4 rating).  Obviously, better teams score more points.  I also added 5 points to the home team's score to account for the extremely big home court advantage in the NBA (this effectively lowers a team's rating by 1 point).  When I played a short (16 game) season, the team standings looked pretty close to what they actually are, except that the won-lost records were closer.  Miami actually won 5 games (I knew I should have given them a rating all their own).
