Apple Remote Desktop 3 will allow you to add Apple Remote Desktop version 2.x clients to your computer lists and will automatically assist you in upgrading them to the current version of the client software.
If you choose not to upgrade your clients to the current version, you will have limited backwards compatibility and will only be able to control/observe computers running version 2.x of the client software.
