This CD-ROM contains a number of beta development releases of new Apple technologies. This untested, prerelease software and related materials were provided “as is” and without warranty of any kind.

AOCE BETA
----------
The Apple Open Collaboration Environment (AOCE) is a system extension that extends the Macintosh operating system to provide a platform for collaboration.

AOCE beta requires System 7.1 and a Macintosh with at least 5 megabytes (MB) of memory (RAM).

APPLE SHARED LIBRARY MANAGER
------------------------------
The Apple Shared Library Manager allows you to create and use dynamically linkable and loadable shared libraries.

APPLESCRIPT RUNTIME
--------------------
AppleScript technology allows users to tailor applications and desktops to better satisfy their particular needs.

AppleScript requires System 7.0 or later and a Macintosh with at least 4 MB of memory.

COLORSYNC 1.0.3b1
-----------------
ColorSync requires a color-capable Apple Macintosh personal computer with System 7 or later and 4 MB of RAM for optimal performance.

DEVELOPER UNIVERSITY DEMO STACK
--------------------------------
Preview some of Developer University’s self-paced training courses with the enclosed stack. You must set your HyperCard partition to 2500K to run the demos.

JAPANESE LANGUAGE KIT
----------------------
The JLK requires a Macintosh with least 4 megabytes of RAM (5 megabytes or more are recommended), System 7.1 or higher, a hard disk with at least 20 megabytes free if you plan to install the Japanese TrueType fonts, and a floppy disk drive capable of reading high-density (1.4 megabyte) floppy disks.

The Macintosh Game Developer’s Handbook is a practical resource that covers many of the issues that are unique to Macintosh game development. Included in this handbook are Macintosh development guidelines, tips, technical notes, sample code, articles and additional resource information.

POWERPC INFORMATION
--------------------
This folder contains general information on the PowerPC runtime environment and preliminary versions of three Inside Macintosh chapters that describe new system software services available under PowerPC system software.

QUICKDRAW GX 1.0b1
------------------
QuickDraw GX is built around an entirely new object-based graphics database. It provides an extensive set of geometric elements (primitives), shapes, styles, and transformations that applications can draw upon as needed.

QuickDraw GX requires a Macintosh with System 7.1 or later, 8 MB of memory (memory has not been optimized in the first beta release, after optimization, 5 MB will be required) and a hard disk.

QUICKTIME 1.6
-------------
QuickTime 1.6 has been enhanced to take advantage of Sound Manager 3.0, Macintosh Easy Open, ColorSync extensions, and more, while taking up less than 20K of memory when not in use.

QuickTime 1.6 requires a Macintosh with a 68020 or greater with 2 MB of memory, System 6.0.7 or later, and a hard drive. 4 MB of memory are recommended for System 7.

QUICKTIME FOR WINDOWS 1.1 BETA
------------------------------
This CD-ROM is a hybrid CD that contains both Macintosh and DOS partitions. The beta version of QuickTime for Windows 1.1 is located on the DOS partition, along with some utilities; Movie Converter 1.0 and Picture Compressor are included on the Macintosh partition; and documentation and sample movies are contained on both.

Hardware specifications for QuickTime for Windows 1.1 are contained within a document on the DOS partition.

SCSI MANAGER 4.3
----------------
SCSI Manager 4.3 gives application developers and device writers a way to achieve dramatic improvements in performance for their products when used with certain ’040 Macintoshes. This folder contains tools needed to add the SCSI manager to your application or develop device drivers that support the new SCSI Manager.

SOUND MANAGER 3.0 BETA
-----------------------
Sound Manager 3.0 is a completely new version that offers increased efficiency. Please see the “Read Me” in the Sound Manager 3.0 beta folder for more detailed information.

Sound Manager 3.0 requires System 7.0 or later and the Component Manager, which is currently available in QuickTime and is also built into System 7.1.

TEXT-TO-SPEECH BETA
--------------------
The Text-to-Speech Manager provides a standardized method for Macintosh applications to generate synthesized speech. It supports the basic text-to-speech toolbox and includes Apple’s standard-quality text-to-speech synthesizer, MacinTalk II. Also included is Gala Tea, Apple’s higher-quality text-to-speech synthesizer. 

The basic TTS system software (Speech Manager & MacinTalk II) will run on all Macintosh systems running System software version 6.0.7 or later. MacinTalk II requires approximately 150K RAM to speak and uses approximately 60% of a Mac Classic while speech is being produced. Gala Tea can only be used on Macintosh systems running System software version 7.0 or later. The enclosed version of Gala Tea requires a Mac LC, Mac II, or Quadra class machine. Gala Tea requires from 700K RAM to about 2.75 MB RAM to speak, depending upon which voice is used.
