SoundMaster is a nice and free control panel addition for System 6 or 7 that lets you set a custom sound to play for each specific Mac OS event, such as when you press a key, empty the trash, shut down your computer, etc...
Starting from Mac OS 8, the Appearance Manager would let you select a SoundSet file, but SoundMaster offered an even greater level of customization by allowing you to select invidiual sound files for each event, essentially allowing you to kind of build your own SoundSet if you will and this, on much earlier versions of Mac OS.
